The Saar economy is traditionally an inclusive labour market. So this is where there is a variety of secure, attractive and well-paid jobs for professionals from all sectors, and from all over Europe.

A clear upward trend compared to the previous year is revealed by the current figures for jobs subject to social security contributions. Thus, the value in September 2014 (the most current data) with about 377,600 employees was 0.6% higher than the calculated value a year ago - and thus significantly higher than the number of employees in 2004 which was 346,000.

Resourceful when creating jobs

Dynamic, innovative and successful in restructuring, the Saarland is also highly productive in creating new jobs. Since 1995, with the assistance of the Starter Centre at the University, 273 companies have been founded with around 1,500 jobs, most of them in information technology, language technology, medical technology, biotechnology and the services sector. By 2017 there will be an additional 3,000.

The ‘Future Alliance of Saar Professionals’ focuses on women as professionals, not just for the sake of equality, but also for demographic reasons. Daily cross-border commuters are an advantage for a further 20,000 jobs.
